The 6th Annual UN Global Road Safety Week begins today Monday 17 May and runs until Sunday 23 May. Supporting UN Global Road Safety Week the Road Safety Authority (RSA), An Garda Síochána, and the Department of Transport are calling on drivers to slow down especially in our cities, towns, and villages to protect vulnerable road users.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) and An Garda Síochána have launched a new road safety campaign calling on road users to be extra cautious and alert to others on the road. The appeal comes as traffic volumes increase following the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions allowing intercounty travel to resume.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has today Friday 7 May confirmed that following the recent decision by government on the gradual reopening of road safety services, ‘essential workers’ can take Essential Driver Training (EDT) lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) from this Monday 10 May.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) and An Garda Síochána are urging drivers to put their mobile phones away when driving as new research from the RSA shows that 1 in 10 motorists admit to regularly texting while driving. The Driver Attitudes & Behaviour Survey 2020(1) also revealed that 9% of motorists admit to driving and talking on a handheld mobile phone and 9% of motorists regularly check mobile apps while behind the wheel.
