What the National Driver Licence Service is and the services it provides.
The services provided by the NDLS include:
- issuing your learner permits and driving licences
- renewing your learner permits and driving licences
- adding categories to your learner permits and driving licences
- updating personal details on your learner permits or driving licences
- replacing your permit or licence if it is lost, stolen or damaged
- exchanging your foreign licence for an Irish licence
- issuing driver statements so you can check any penalty points and other details.

Online services
Applying for a driving licence or learner permit just got a whole lot easier.
Most NDLS services are available online and can be used if you have a Public Services Card and a verified MyGovID. It's faster and simpler to use NDLS services online at NDLS.ie.
You can apply online for:
- first-time learner permit or full licence
- renewing your driving licence or learner permit
- updating personal details
- replacement of a lost/stolen or damaged licence or permit
- exchanging your foreign licence for an Irish licence
NDLS Centres
There are 34 NDLS centres nationwide where all NDLS services are available. However, you must book an appointment before attending any NDLS centre.
