To become an IBT instructor you must already be an RSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) in category A with a valid ADI permit and you must have held your full drivers licence in Category A for a minimum of 2 years.

Renewing your IBT permit

As an IBT instructor you must renew your ADI permit every two years and also resubmit an IBT insurance form and liability waiver. We will send you a renewal pack three months in advance of your permit expiry date, which is listed on your card.

    If you run an IBT centre, you need to renew your certificate every two years. We will email you your renewal pack three months in advance of your IBT centre expiry date which is listed on your certificate.

    Managing IBT modules and records

    You must return your training records as soon as possible after a student completes their IBT course as failure to do so may result in a learner not being allowed to sit a driving test.

    The Completed IBT course form should be posted, together with the counterfoils of all certificates issued, to: Driver Education, Road Safety Authority, Moy Valley Business Park, Dublin Road, Ballina, Co. Mayo.
