A penalty point disqualification starts 28 days after the notification is issued. This happens when you accumulate 12 penalty points on a driving record within any three year period, or 7 penalty points if you're a novice or learner driver.

A penalty point disqualification lasts for 6 months. It can't be served on a licence or permit that's out of date. In this case, the disqualification will start once the licence or permit is renewed. Equally, if you are disqualified for another offence during those six months, an additional disqualification period will apply.
