Temporary Relocation of Galway Driving Test Centre to Clybaun Hotel (From 7 April 2025)

Driving test 25.02.2025

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) wishes to inform driving test applicants in Galway that, due to construction work at Westside Shopping Centre, the driving test centre is moving to the Clybaun Hotel in Knocknacarra from Monday 7 April 2025.

This temporary move, expected to last 12 to 18 months, has been necessitated by construction work in the area, which has resulted in significant disruption to traffic flow around the existing test centre. The RSA has taken this step to ensure the health and safety of driving test applicants, Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs), and staff.

This move is temporary while the RSA work with the OPW to secure a suitable permanent site for future driver testing that will serve the people of Galway. Securing a permanent solution has been difficult as any proposed location must meet with a number of suitability criteria and be sited on a suitable test route.

Minimal Impact on Driving Test Routes
The RSA wishes to reassure learner drivers and ADIs that the driving test routes will not be substantially altered as a result of this temporary relocation. Test applicants can expect a similar testing experience to that of the Westside location.

Key Information for Driving Test Applicants:
New Temporary Test Centre Address: Clybaun Hotel, Knocknacarra, Galway
Effective From: Monday 7 April 2025
Duration: Approximately 12-18 months
Test Routes: Largely unchanged

Driving test applicants with scheduled tests or who are waiting for an invitation to test will receive direct communication from the RSA regarding the change of venue.

The RSA appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all applicants and ADIs during this period and will continue to keep the public informed of any further developments.
