To become an IBT instructor you must already be an RSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) in category A with a valid ADI permit and you must hold your full drivers licence in Category A for a minimum of 2 years.

Complete the following documentation and post these to: Driver Education, Road safety Authority, Moy Valley Business Park, Dublin Road, Ballina, Co. Mayo.
- IBT Instructor Application Form
- Insurance Declaration Form for Trainer signed and stamped by Insurance Provider
- Liability Release, Waiver and Discharge Form
- Tax clearance certificate – your tax clearance access number
- Policy information / statements on the eight policies outlined in the Application Form
Step 3
Once we've received and approved all of the above documentation, we will send you your IBT Starter Pack by courier.
The IBT starter pack includes:
- IBT Trainer Approval Cover Letter
- IBT Trainer Approval Certificate
- Guidelines for IBT Motorcycle Instructors Book
- Official IBT Stamp (with your 5 digit ADI reference number) – The IBT stamp should be kept secure at all times and is required to stamp the relevant section of the IBT logbook certificate page and the Certificate of Satisfactory Completion.

- IBT Motorcycling Official Syllabus x 5
- IBT Pre Rider Check Pads (pad of 50) x 1
- IBT Student Logbooks x 5
- Certificate Book of Satisfactory Completion (book of 50) x 1
- Weekly returns form
- IBT Supplies Order Form
- RSA Website Content Request Form – complete and return this to the IBT Unit of the RSA and we will add your details to the IBT online register on our website.
As an IBT Trainer, you must comply with the RSA Approved syllabus to retain your approval status.
