The Road Safety Authority (RSA) is greatly concerned at the announcement by An Garda Síochána that there were significant discrepancies between the number of people actually being breathalysed versus the number recorded as having been breathalysed since 2011, and published on the Garda website.

A yellow weather warning has been issued for snow and ice for tonight and much of tomorrow morning. Showers of snow are expected at times and are likely to reach accumulations of 1-3cm locally with the majority of snow showers likely to affect hills, mountains and areas of high ground on the western half of the country. Temperatures are likely to fall below freezing nationwide tonight and hazardous driving conditions should be expected. The RSA is asking road users to keep up to date with local weather and traffic conditions and be aware of the conditions before setting out on a trip.

The preliminary findings of a new report, which examined the toxicology reports of those killed in road crashes in 2014, has revealed that 31% of people killed had alcohol in their system at the time of their deaths.

A yellow weather warning has been issued for heavy rainfall and snow for the west and south west of the country over the weekend. Widespread heavy showers are also forecast nationwide and at times are likely to lead to rainfall accumulations of 30 to 40mm. The worst affected areas are expected to be Connaught, Donegal, Clare, Cork, Kerry and limerick. The forecast indicates a return to more settled conditions towards the middle of next week. The RSA is asking road users to keep up to date with local weather and traffic conditions and be aware of the conditions before setting out on a trip.
