  • Who can access MyRoadSafety?

For security reasons, only customers who already have their first learner permit or driving licence can access MyRoadSafety. This applies to both verified MyGovID and RSA-authenticated registration.

    How can I access MyRoadSafety?

You can access MyRoadSafety in one of two ways:

    1. Login with a verified MyGovID account

The fastest way to access MyRoadSafety is with a verified MyGovID

If you have a ‘verified’ MyGovID, you can log straight into MyRoadSafety without having to register an account.

If you only have a 'basic' MyGovID, you need to upgrade it to a 'verified' MyGovID. Learn more on the MyGovID.ie website.

In order to verify your MyGovID account you will need the following:

    • a basic MyGovID account
    • a phone that has been verified in an Intreo Centre
    • a Public Services Card

Alternatively, if your phone number wasn’t verified earlier at the Intreo Centre, you will be asked to verify your identity via a one-time activation code that will be sent to your address which was collected during the Public Service Card interview.

Learn more about applying for or upgrading your MyGovID at MyGovID.ie.

    2. Register an RSA-authenticated account

You can also register directly on MyRoadSafety by completing 3-Step process:

You will not be fully registered or able to log into MyRoadSafety until both validations have been completed.

If you register for an RSA account but then later log into the portal with MyGovID, you must use your MyGovID going forward. This is for security reasons.

    What is a 'verified' MyGovID?

MyGovID is a single account that lets you access government services in Ireland. Having a single account means you only have to sign up once and you only have to remember one password.

There are two different account types: a basic account and a verified account. The basic account only allows you to access limited government services. The verified account is a more secure type of MyGovID account that lets you access all services, including MyRoadSafety. You need to create a basic account first and then can upgrade it to a verified account by going through a number of additional security steps. Set up or upgrade your MyGovID on the MyGovID.ie website.

What are the steps to register an RSA account?

Before you begin please make sure that:

    • you have access to the email address or mobile phone number that you used for your most recent learner permit or driving licence application with NDLS. You will be sent a code to these as part of the validation steps during registration. If you no longer have access to either of these or never provided them to NDLS, please call NDLS Customer Support on (021) 462 4801 for assistance.
    • you have decided what email address to use for your RSA account registration and have access to it during the registration process. It can be the same as the one provided to NDLS or a different one. However, this email address will become your username for logging into MyRoadSafety and will also be the email address to which we send all of our communications relating to your portal activities, such as driving test booking confirmations, cancellation notifications etc. You should use an email address that is unique to you, is not shared with anybody else and you regularly access it to ensure that you are not missing out on important messages from the RSA.

Follow these steps to register for an RSA account:

    1. Click on the 'Register Here' link on the login page.

    2. Enter your PPSN, date of birth, email address and set a password.

    3. Answer a number of security questions that may be asked if you forget your username or password later. Therefore, please make sure to note down what questions you selected. You can select your preferred questions from a list by clicking on the Security Question titles.

    4. Acknowledge that all of the information you provided is true and correct and tick the 'reCAPTCHA' robot protection checkbox. Click 'Continue'.

    5. To validate your identity, we will send you a verification code to the email address or mobile number that you provided when you applied for your most recent learner permit or driving licence.

    6. Select your preference and click 'Submit'.

    7. Check your email or SMS for the code and enter it on the page. It is best not to copy and paste but to type the numbers in.

    8. We will then send an email to the address you entered on your registration form. This is to make sure that you entered the email address correctly as it will become your username for logging into MyRoadSafety and will also be the email address to which we send all of our communications relating to your MyRoadSafety activities, such as driving test booking confirmations, cancellation notifications etc.

    9. Check your email and click on the link in it to complete the registration. You can now log into MyRoadSafety for the first time.

You will not be fully registered or able to log into MyRoadSafety until both validations have been completed.

Why did I not get an email?

If you did not receive your confirmation, or other, email from us within a few minutes please check your Spam or Junk folder. Depending on your email account settings, messages can be delivered there instead of your inbox. If so, select the message and click Not Spam, which should allow future emails to get through.

    Error - Invalid PPSN

    Error Text

    Invalid PPSN

    Reason

This error occurred because the PPSN entered is incorrect/incorrectly formatted.

    What Next?

Please check that you are entering the correct PPSN and to ensure that the letter(s) entered at the end is capitalised.

Error - Please check your registration details

    Error Text

Please check your registration details and try again. Remember that you must hold a learner permit or driving licence before you can sign up.

    Reason

The system checks in the background if a record exists on NDLS to validate your identity and if it doesn't it will show this error message. This error appears for 2 reasons:

    • You entered an incorrect PPSN and date of birth combination and we therefore cannot find your record on the NDLS system
    • We do not yet have a record for you on the NDLS system which is needed to register on the portal. Normally, this means having a first learner permit or driving licence.

    What Next?

You cannot register yet. If you have passed your theory test, you must apply for your first learner permit. Once you have applied, you are assigned a driver number and then NDLS will have a record for you. Please make sure to provide an email address or mobile number with your application.

    Now you can register.

Error - No email address or mobile number on licence record

    Error Text

For security reasons, we need to send a code to an email address or mobile number from your learner permit or driving licence record. However, if your permit or licence record does not have either of these, we cannot progress with your registration. If you have a verified MyGovID, you can use this to login. Alternatively, please contact NDLS customer services on 021 4624801 to update your email or mobile.

    Reason

This error appeared because we do not have an email address or mobile number on your driver record with NDLS. As these are used in Step 1 of the RSA-authenticated registration process, registration cannot proceed.

    What Next?

If you have a verified MyGovID, use this to log into the portal instead. Otherwise, please call NDLS customer service on 021 462 4801 to change your contact details on your driver record and then try to register again.

Error - You already created an account

    Error Text

You already created an account, either by registering or by logging in with your verified MyGovID. Please login with your existing details.

    Reason

This error appeared for one of 2 reasons:

    • You already registered previously on MyRoadSafety
    • You previously logged in with MyGovID

Even if you registered an account before, once you use MyGovID to log in, you have to use MyGovID going forward. This is for security reasons.

    What Next?

If you registered before, please log in using the original credentials.

Remember that the email address you used is your username. You can also request a username reminder from the login page.

You can also reset your password.

Alternatively, use a 'verified' MyGovID to log in. A 'basic' MyGovID is not secure enough. Learn more about applying for or upgrading your MyGovID at MyGovID.ie .

Error - Invalid code. Please try again.

    Error Text

    Invalid code. Please try again

    Reason

The validation code was entered incorrectly. This can happen if you did not capture all digits in your email notification during a copy and paste, entered a digit incorrectly or inadvertently added a blank space at the beginning or end of the number.

    What Next?

Try to re-enter the digits by hand without using copy and paste. Ensure that no space is added. Also, if you clicked to resend the validation code several times, multiple emails or SMS messages may arrive. Please make sure to only enter the code from the most recent message you received as the previous code will be invalid as soon as you request a new code. Sometimes, email or SMS systems can experience delays in delivery and this could cause multiple messages to arrive at the same time. This is outside of our control.

Error - Oops! Invalid login credentials

    Error Text

Oops! Invalid login credentials. Please try again.

    Reason

This error appeared because the login information you have entered was not recognised.
This could be due to one of 5 reasons:

    1. The username (email) you are using is incorrect
    2. The password you are attempting to use is incorrect
    3. You have not yet registered for a portal account
    4. You did not enter the 2FA verification code correctly or at all
    5. You did not click on the link in the validation email to complete your registration. This is the second step in the registration validation process, after you verified your identity entering the 6 digit code.

    What Next?

Remember that the email address you used is your username. You can also request a username reminder from the login page.
You can try resetting your password.
If you think you already registered but may not have completed it by entering the 2FA code and/or by clicking on the validation email link, please register again.
