Essential Driver Training (EDT) update

Approved Driving Instructors (ADI’s) can now offer EDT to all customers so learner drivers no longer need to complete an essential worker declaration form. Know more >

TIME RUNNING OUT FOR UK / NI LICENCE EXCHANGE

The National Driver Licence Service (NDLS) is issuing a final reminder to anyone resident in Ireland with a UK / NI driving licence to submit their applications to exchange it now as time is running out. As it can take up to 10 days to process a UK / NI licence exchange, and there may be further delays caused by a last minute increase in applications, the NDLS cannot guarantee that any person applying in the second half of October will receive their Irish licence before Brexit day.

Motorists urged to ‘get a grip’ and check their tyres during Irish Road Safety Week

The Road Safety Authority (RSA), An Garda Síochána and the Irish Tyre Industry Association (ITIA), have teamed up for ‘tyre safety day’ on Wednesday 9 October, during Irish Road Safety Week, to remind all road users to check their tyres. Motorists can call in to any ITIA dealer for a free tyre pressure check and tread depth inspection.

Drug driving a major problem on Ireland’s roads

Figures unveiled today at the Road Safety Authority’s (RSA) Annual Academic Lecture, show that drug driving is a major problem on Ireland’s roads. They show that 68% of drivers with a positive roadside drug test, between April 2017 and July 2019, had a positive test for cannabis. Cocaine follows closely behind as the main illicit drug detected after cannabis, with 37% of samples tested being positive for cocaine. The Medical Bureau of Road Safety (MBRS) findings also demonstrate that cannabis is now not far behind alcohol in blood and urine samples it examined.
