There are approximately 2.5 million vehicles registered for use on Irish roads. Nearly all vehicles are imported and must meet specific technical standards before entering into service here. Once in service, they must meet other vehicle standards & regularly pass road-worthiness inspections.
From 1 June 2011 annual NCT testing has been introduced for cars 10 years and older.
The RSA is now responsible for the overall supervision of Commercial vehicle roadworthiness testing. Find out more in our CVR Reform section
