Road Users Being Warned of New Danger for Drivers on Motorways and Dual Carriageways

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) is warning drivers, particularly on motorways and dual carriageways, to be on guard for slabs of snow and ice falling or sliding off road side banks into their path.

Drivers need to SLOW DOWN in order to react in time to this new hazard, and others posed by thawing snow.

Drivers are also being urged to slow down to ensure the safety of motorway maintenance crews and vehicles who are vulnerable road workers in these treacherous conditions. The warning is being issued in conjunction with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).

Separately, Met Eireann has warned of the risk of extensive fog over the country tonight and into tomorrow morning, especially over the midlands. Road users need to take extra precautions in such conditions, especially in areas badly affected by snow.
