Our website accessibility

The RSA is committed to making its website accessible in line with European Union (Accessibility of Websites and Mobile Applications of Public Sector Bodies) Regulations 2020, however we acknowledge that some content isn't yet fully complaint and we are working to address this gap.

Below is our Accessibility Statement which applies to content published on www.rsa.ie only.

This statement was first prepared on 11 January 2021 and last updated on 10 March 2026. We continue to assess our pages against all relevant WCAG 2.1 AA Success Criteria using tools such as Axe monitoring, Manual testing, Adobe Acrobat Pro and Microsoft Office Accessibility scanning tools.

Our website currently has an accessibility score of 79%. While this is considered to be 'Fair' by industry standards, we are striving to identify and fix further issues, such as:

IssueDescription Status
Colour contrast (7%)Some elements do not meet minimum colour contrast ratio thresholds.Further website changes in progress to ensure the contrast between foreground and background colours meet minimum contrast ratio thresholds.
Forms & labels (1%)Not every form element has a label and/or an accessible name. This is caused by a link to an external portal so currently out of our control.
Language (1%)Some HTML document do not have a language attribute.Links to an external portal which is currently out of our control.
Name, Role, Value (4%)Some buttons or links on the RSA website lack discernible text.Review underway to fix any buttons or links to ensure they have discernible text. Some are links to external sites which are outside our control.
PDF documents  (approx. 15% )Some of our pdf documents are not accessible. For example; ALT text, tags or titles missing, incorrect structuring etc.Retrofit in progress. We are prioritising office file formats used for 'active administration' e.g. application forms, declaration forms etc. followed by the most popular downloads. Please note that under the European Accessibility Act, we're not legally required to retrofit all pdfs published prior to 28 June 2025.
Text alternative (1%)Some HTML documents are missing a title and some frames or images don't have alternative text.Review underway to identify documents with missing accessible elements and we will update these accordingly. Some of these relate to third party widgets which are outside of our control.

Each page on this site contains a text based menu providing easy access to all pages on this site.

Many links have title attributes which describe the link in greater detail, unless the text of the link already fully describes the target (such as the headline of an article). Links are written to make sense out of context.

All content images used in this site include descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics include null ALT attributes.

This site uses cascading style sheets (CSS) for visual layout. This means you may customise your Internet browser settings to view the site according to your own preferences. If your browser does not support style sheets the content of each page will still be readable.

We have endeavored to construct this site according to the Priority 1 requirements of the National Disability Authority of Ireland's Guidelines for Web Accessibility. This site validates to XHTML 1.0 and CSS 2.1 standards.
